If you are having guests coming for the evening part of the wedding it’s only polite to offer them something. If it’s only a piece of wedding cake and a cup of tea or coffee that’s fine, as long as they know. The wording of the evening invite should make it very clear if you are offering them a meal, a snack or just a drink. From a caterers point of view it’s the most difficult part of the day to predict as guests usually have no idea whether they are being fed or not. Half of them turn up having already eaten and the other half are starving.
We’ve come up with a few tried and tested evening dishes that go down really well and won’t break the bank.
I know they’ve been done but everyone loves them. Combine them with some sausage ones and maybe a few cheese toasties for the veggies and you are on to a winner.
What’s great about cheese is that you can make a meal of it. Add some crusty bread and serve with some home-made chutney, you can even add some pate, pickles and cherry tomatoes and serve with the wedding cake. A great alternative to a wedding cake is a cheese wedding cake which then doubles up as your evening food. It’s trendy, unconventional and delicious. If you can’t do without your fruit cake, we can even add a layer.
Lots of little dishes are a great idea for the evening. Chicken skewers, tasty meatballs, Thai fish cakes, koftas, stuffed vine leaves, spinach and feta parcels can all be incorporated into a delicious snack sized meal.
Canapés aren’t just for the start of the day, they work equally well later on. These can be combined with some dessert canapes to give evening guests a memorable bite sized meal.
If you want a change from bacon, why not have hot pork baguettes, beef baguettes or lamb baquettes. All served with the relevant accompaniments.
A great idea in summer is to have an evening barbecue. It doesn’t have to be the full works, you can have burgers and sausages with baps, pickles and relish. Simple, tasty and not too expensive. Nothing beats the smell of a barbecue on a summer evening.
Whilst you don’t need to go mad in the evening it’s a great idea to do a simple hot dish with rice, potatoes and maybe some salad and bread. You can have a curry or a hot casserole or something totally different from the main wedding breakfast like a Lancashire hot pot, bangers and mash or fish and chips. We’ve also done fondues, giant paellas in authentic Spanish paella pans, hog roasts, picnic baskets and many other novel ideas. If you have an idea yourself that’s different and unusual, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.
